Built as one of the first six frigates authorized by the Naval Act of 1794 and dedicated on July 20th, 1797, The USS Constitution earned its nickname "Old Ironsides" after seeing a lot of action in the War of 1812. Today, it is the oldest commissioned ship anywhere in the world, though its war days are long over. It now floats in Boston Harbor as a museum and tourist attraction.
