Dating Linda Blair
Dating Linda Blair

"I dated a girl once who had been wonderful to me for several weeks. We were both very happy until one day when she suddenly decided I should know that she had a demon inside her. Now, I consider myself an extremely down-to-earth guy, and I laughed in her face when she said that, but she was actually f---ing serious. She began "letting her demon take over" now that she was getting comfortable in the relationship and the one time we had sex after that she pretended she was transforming into the demon. The worst part of all? She told me suddenly that her demon had "cubs". And she kept trying to introduce me to them. I didn't last more than three days after that. By far the cringiest and most disturbing interaction I've had."

"I was confronting my father about my uncle molesting me when I was 8. 'Yeah. I knew. Figured it was better to let your grandmother deal with it.'"

Daddy Dearest

"She told me she slept with her dad and had been since middle school. After that bomb dropped she told me that when they were apart she pretended her pillow was her dad and cuddled with it. Just casually tossed it all off like 'oh hey, I used to take art classes' or 'my shirt is blue.' One of the few times in my life I've ever been utterly speechless."

Gone Fishin'

"I live in a small town and we have this older fellow whom everyone loves. He spends most days standing in front of his red, white and blue painted duplex waving at every motorist that passes by. I lived two blocks away from him so he waved at me plenty of times, I figured he knew I lived nearby. One day, instead of just waving, he flagged me down and asked me for a ride. The whole town knew this guy, so it seemed safe in my head. He asked me where I was going and I told him the Walmart, he told me to take me there. Walmart is 15 minutes away and during the entire ride he just kept telling me that he likes to kill goldfishes with his hands. He did this while making squeezing motions with his old man hands. Really freaked me out. When we got to Walmart he told me to wait for him before driving back, but I ended up just ditching him. I figured most people in town are nice enough to drive him back and I didn't feel like getting strangled that day."

Making of a Murderer
Making of a Murderer

"I worked in a small town recreation facility for a few years. There was a group of 10 or so families involved in some rather intense religious organization, and a few of the older children were permitted to participate in our programs. One family in particular, was the hardest of hardcore followers of this religious sect. Unfortunately, they also had the most messed up kids. By messed up, I mean, starved for attention and socially inept with big, lifeless, anime looking eyes. The 2 oldest boys were once telling me about how they used to own rabbits but they can't anymore because of their little brother. They paused, looked at each other and said in monotonic unison, 'he kills things.' They went on to explain how he put the rabbit in the corner of the cage and gently gave it the end of a stick to chew on, then just pushed the stick down the rabbit's throat and held it there. The older boys were freaking out, their sister was crying but the little brother just dropped the stick and walked away. They never did tell me what else the child killed but that moment in time is forever burned into my memory. 'He kills things.'"

"'You are my son, and I love you. But you look just like your father. And that makes me hate you a little.' Hell of a thing to hear at 7 years old."

"I used to work as a receptionist for a music school. The business was small enough that they held lessons inside a church so that they paid very little rent in exchange for free lessons to church employees. Anyways, while I was working there I saw a lot of homeless people come in trying to get help from the church. One day I had a lady (clearly homeless) come in and ask if she could sit in one of the chairs in the lobby and get out of the cold for a little bit. We began chatting and she nonchalantly told me she had just found out someone had murdered her best friend. Not knowing how to respond, I asked her if I could give her a hug, and she broke down sobbing. It was extremely heartbreaking."

Decision Time
Decision Time

"A coworker had quit and then come back years later. When he came back, we got to catching up a little bit. He started talking about how he had dated this girl for a while and then she left him for some other guy. He clearly wasn't over it and the conversation progressed to a more general conversation about friendship and he said, 'I'm the kind of person where I either don't care about you or would die for you.' He continued on about how he nearly 'died for' this girl, I asked him to elaborate and he said he was feeling suicidal after the breakup, said he called her and asked her to come over. She obliged and he told me that when she got there he pointed to a gun and told her to either shoot him or get back together with him. He then played it off as if he was just doing it to symbolize how much he cared about her, that he was never planning on her actually making a choice, but I couldn't help just thinking how she must have felt in that situation. I decided after that conversation that I would rather be someone he didn't care about."

"When I was around 14 I was doing a lot of poetry slam (there's a pretty big scene here in Berlin), and a lot of the older poets took a liking to me, because, you know, I was still a kid and stuff. So one night after a slam, four or so of us went in to our usual bar and talked for hours while drinking. One of them had a rare liver disease (Jaundice) and wasn't supposed to drink. He did though that night, and a lot too. So, around 2 am or so, this dude is completely drunk. I'm not because everyone is watching out for me and making sure I don't overdo it. Anyways, he suddenly leans in, and tells me "when I was your age, a guy in his 30s ordered me a drink in a bar, dropped something in there, and when I was pretty much passed out, he abused me at trash can for two hours". He just spouted that out and went back to drinking. I didn't know what to say and no one else heard it. I still see this guy every few months because we have mutual friends and the like, and neither I nor him have ever brought this up."

Health Concerns
Health Concerns

"Over 5 years ago I was dating a guy that had a seriously messed up family. I didn't really care about it too much since the relationship was definitely not serious. One day he told me that his mom (that already was like the holy Mary to him) regularly checks his testicles to make sure there are no lumps or suspicious swellings. He was over 20 at that time, and she also checked his older brother's balls, who was well over 30, married and with kids. He told me this as it was completely normal, and was proud of his mom's devotion to her children's health."

"He asked about a scar I have on my wrist (which I received when I was 8 from accidentally putting my hand through a window). After telling him the full account he said something along the lines of 'Yeah, I used to cut my arm with broken glass in my dad's shed when I was bored.' He ended up murdering his best friend a few years later."

Icebreaker

"I was training a new guy at work and it was his 3rd day on the job. We were outside just standing there quietly both smoking a cigarette. During that awkward, 'I don't know you yet' silence, he says, 'Well my girlfriend finally let me go down on her while on the rag last night.'"

"When my niece was very young we were all sitting down to dinner. She says 'Uncle? Can I tell you a secret?' I said, 'Of course you can, sweetie.' She leans in close and in a barely audible whisper states, 'Deep down inside we're all just meat.' I guess it's true..."

A Cinderella Story
A Cinderella Story

"At a wedding, I ask: 'What's up with that kid?' Indicating one girl who looks like the desperately-poor relations who showed up at a Ritz event. It was PAINFULLY obvious that one child was left out of the wedding preparations. She appeared dirt-poor, neglected... like someone who lived in the deep West Virginia woods wearing someone else's shoes. She had a dingy hand-me-down dress that was too big for her, her hair barely combed, no accessories, etc. All the other girls at the wedding are in full dress, hair with diamond tiaras, jewelry, and makeup. They were all related - so I didn't get the problem. She wasn't a long-distance relative. Also, this little girl was trying to hang out with the 'pretty' kids --- but they shunned her. It was painfully obvious they didn't want her around. She crawled away to a dark corner to hide. 'Oh, they don't spoil her' she said, with a sense of bragging, as if it was OBVIOUS what they were doing. That's not the bride's kid sister. That's the bride's daughter. But the family doesn't want anyone to know she is illegitimate.'

So - the bride's own daughter was neglected and left out of the bridal preparations, was being 'punished' for being born to a snotty w---- who couldn't even have the decency to treat her own daughter like a human being. And the worst part? The little girl knew she's unloved and unwanted. I tried to go over to talk to her, but the grandmother, aka, 'mom', saw me and interceded. She took the girl by her hand and had her sit at another table --- unable to dance / party with the other kids - unable to talk to anyone. And I watched that girl sit there for 4 hours, not smiling, no one talking to her, not eating. Just staring at her lap - utterly defeated. I hated everyone at that wedding. I still hate everyone from that wedding. I never socialized with those s---s again."

"When I first got employed at my current job my boss was showing me around the place. We got to the back where the restrooms were and he told me they were for employees only, and that no one else could use them. Then he proceeded to tell me the reason is because he was 'sick of the stupid people flushing their babies down the toilet.' Then he went on with the tour like nothing had happened. I really need to find a new job."

"I came to the US to help my grandmother after she had an accident and Medicare didn't want to assist with her care. She used to visit us in Mexico once a year and was like Santa Claus, just dropped gifts and you frankly didn't bother with her the rest of the year. My mother never told me why she came to the United States and I never asked. One day, I popped the question. 'Abuela, why did you come to the US?' Her answer changed everything I knew about my family and our past; 'To buy my children back.' I assumed so many things about my family. I thought my grandfather had a strawberry farm in Michoacan and was nice and caring. But I was wrong. He was an abusive cheating piece of s--- that at one moment gave a house to his favorite prostitute over having a house for his wife and children. My grandmother at one moment had enough of this and left him. She was unable to take her kids at the moment. My grandparents later met and my Abuela wanted her kids back. My grandfather alleged she owed them money, as her sisters have been taking care of them all this time. He asked her $5000 dollars, which she didn't have. This was the start of her odyssey. She fought with tooth and nail to get her 2 daughters and 4 sons back. She is my hero."

"I teach karate, and a few years ago a little girl came up to me and said something really quietly so I couldn't hear it. I asked her to repeat it and she just told me that she would tell me after class. After class, she skips (literally skips) up to me and says, in a very happy tone of voice, 'My mommy died last week. She shot herself.' Kids are f---ing weird."

"I started talking with this new kid at our school a couple days ago. We get along fine; he's got some weird vibes to him but I figure he's just not good at talking or something. One day out of nowhere he starts talking about his s----y ex and how he can't even talk to her anymore. I ask him why, and he gets this weird-a-- look on his face like he's constipated. After a while, he finally says real chill, 'Ohhh well, I kinda got mad one day and said I was gonna kill her...and her family...and all her friends...but no big deal man, it's in the past.'" "A couple in a bar once shared the fact that on their first night together he drugged her and had the balls to stay around in the morning... She thought it was sweet that he was too shy to do it any other way. They are married with a child."

Getting to Know All About You
Getting to Know All About You

"When I first went to college I started making friends with my dorm neighbors, and during the second week of being in session I ended up running into one of them on my way to class. We walked and made small talk because we didn't really know each other that well when out of nowhere he says 'Can I tell you something?' I said 'Umm... Sure yeah of course.' 'Look this is sort of out there but I really want to get to know you better and I can't think of anything more personal and intimate than eating a piece of you.' I laughed thinking he was making a weird joke. 'No I'm serious. Just think it over. It wouldn't be a big piece just a small fillet. It would hardly hurt at all. You don't have to answer me now just think about it.' I noped on out of that one."

"I went to a bar for a few hours just relaxing after a stressful day to have a few drinks. A man arrived and sat next to me a few minutes after I arrived. The entire time we were there he didn't say a word to anyone at the bar (besides ordering his drink). I brushed it off my shoulder and let him be. The guy on the other side started chatting to me and after a few drinks we started talking about weird sex stories. Overhearing, the quiet man stood up, walked in between us and said 'I tried to bang a lamp post. My d--- got stuck and firemen had to cut it out, I've still got me scars.' He held a straight face the entire time. He promptly picked up my beer and left."

"I had a barber once who talked about how he would pretend to be gay to pick up men just so he and his friends could beat them up. I'm straight but I didn't go back to that barber. He sounded so proud of himself."

"Used to work in a pharmacy, but I'm not a pharmacist. I did wear a tie and a white coat, though, so people often thought I was. A guy came up to the counter one day and without preamble says, 'My girlfriend has little worms coming out of her anus.' Was all I could do to calmly raise a hand to stop him and tell him I'd have him talk to the pharmacist on duty. I don't play poker, but that day I found out I do have a poker face."
