At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci became the first person, male or female, to score a perfect 10 in an event. She scored the 10 on the Uneven Bars. She also scored a 10 later on the Balance Beam. She repeated both feats 4 years later in Moscow. The first American to score a 10 in Olympic gymnastics would come 4 years after that, when Mary Lou Retton did it in Los Angeles in 1984.
