The 2018 Pyeongchang Olympic Games will now host four new events.

The Olympics website announced on April 3, 2017, that the four new additions were agreed upon by The International Olympic Committee in 2015. The new games will consist of curling mixed doubles, speed skating mass start, alpine skiing team event, and snowboarding big air.

According to the website, doubles curling will consist of a team made up of one man and one woman. They will be playing with six stones over the traditional eight and there will only be eight ends as opposed to the traditional 10.

Doubles curling is not unheard of either. It's made an appearance during the Youth Winter Olympic Games in both 2012 and 2016.

Those who follow the Olympics know that speed skating mass starts have been a part of the games since 2011-2012. "The mass start in Pyeongchang will be significantly different from its first Olympic outing in 1932, with four times as many competitors now lining up in each heat," the site states. "The competition starts with three semi-finals, with the eight fastest from each progressing to the final, where 24 athletes will line up to fight for the gold. The athletes are staggered in rows of six, with starting spots allocated according to rankings."

The alpine skiing team event is a new addition that will host a team of two men and two women competing against one another. "In each pairing, two female and two male skiers from each team race a parallel slalom in a best-of-four contest. Traditionally, 16 teams start the event, competing in a knockout format over four rounds," the site states.

Snowboard big air brings tricks to the skies with competitors seeing ramps as high as 49 meters for them to jump from. According to the website, "snowboarders have plenty of time in the air to wow the judges."

The Olympic Games have always been a good way to cheer on your country and remind yourselves that you'll never be that athletic, but with the new games, people have a lot of things to look forward to this year!
