One man surprised doctors when they needed to perform an emergency surgery on him.

A man from Sichuan Province had two servings of fish and, as most do with fish, he downed the meal in its entirety. Now, when I see "in its entirety" I mean that he ate everything including the bones.

Chengdu Business Daily reported that the man consumed the bones from two servings of boiled carp soup with the belief that he could pass them. Initially, the bones hurt his esophagus on the way down but it wasn't bad enough for him to think too much of it. But a few days passed and he noticed some pain when he tried to go to the bathroom.

As he went to see doctors they ran some tests to see what the issue was. Through a CT scan, they found out that small clusters of fish bones were lodged in the man's rectum. And, naturally, that causes a giant problem when you're trying to go to the bathroom.

A two-hour procedure followed where doctors needed to surgically remove the bones. Global Times spoke with the doctors involved. Huang Zhiyin, a doctor from West China Hospital of Sichuan University, told the publication that "a patient with this many fish bones was a first for us. The most we've had to remove was around 10 or so. Because there were so many bones and his rectum was severely swollen, we couldn't get them all at once," he added. "So we had him return home to rest a few days to see if he'd pass the rest on his own."

Medium reported that the man was sent home and told to come back in one week so that doctors could take a look at the progress.

Not that you should really need to be reminded, but in case you were ever thinking about eating fishbones, let this serve as a warning for why you should probably not do that...
