The good folks over at CandyStore.com have a great page filled with all kinds of candy facts ("treats," if you will - ok, ok, that was bad).
On the "Facts & Trivia" page you can find out all sorts of sweet tidbits, like coconut is the most popular jelly bean in Massachusetts or Reese's Minature Peanut Butter Cups are the most calorie-dense candy on the market.
But our favorite tasty morsel of info is about Halloween candy.
The most fun thing to argue about is the interactive map of the most popular Halloween candy in each state.
Who would have thought that Hot Tamales would be so popular in North Dakota? Stoic Missouri goes for traditional Milky Ways? It's a little surprising that Skittles are FAR more popular than anything involving chocolate. It's no surprise that the rainbow of fruit-flavored candies are the most popular candy in the Rainbow State of Hawaii but it's a little surprising that Skittles are the most popular in no less than five states, including California.
But the weirdest? It's not that Kentucky loves Swedish fish or even that Nebraska goes for salt water taffy when there isn't even salt water in land-locked Nebraska! (yes, yes we know that salt water taffy doesn't actually contain seawater, you can comment below about that if you must). No, the weirdest is that seven states love one of the weirdest and worst candies in the world.
SEVEN states love Candy Corn!?
Candy corn?? Really? Nothing is guaranteed to make you sick faster than a handful of candy corn and apparently, in Nevada, Idaho, New Mexico, Iowa, Alabama, and Wisconsin they eat the stuff by the bushelful.
Those are all fine states, sure, but you have to question their taste when it comes to candy. With all the delicious candy that is out there, from Butterfingers to Twixs to Lemonheads to M&Ms and Jolly Ranchers, those states, Nevada, Idaho, New Mexico, Iowa, Alabama, and Wisconsin, chose something as boring and weird tasting as candy corn!
Isn't candy corn really just for decorating anyway?
We don't get it.
