You can say a lot about the rats in Washington, D.C. They spread disease, rummage through trash bins looking for scraps, and have become a general nuisance to the population of our nation's capital city.
But enough about the politicians sitting atop Capitol Hill, let's talk about the actual rats in the city, like the one who made national news in September after NBC Washington released security footage of the rat pulling a fire alarm and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of people from a D.C. condo building.
Watch the video below to see the rat in action:
With lighthearted news coming out of Washington for the first time in who knows how long, people were rejoicing at the sheer athleticism of the dingy rodent.
Rachel Kurzius,of theDCist blog, gives props to the rat for taking advantage of the situation to do what rats do best... scourge through apartments looking for food and shelter.
"But think about this: what happens during a fire alarm, when all the humans scurry outside? Lots of open doors, that's what. What if this rat was creating a diversion for all of its friends and family to move in? I've seen Ratatouille---I know a thing or two about what these creatures are capable of," Kurzius writes.
D.C. bloggers aren't the only ones having fun with the situation. In fact, thousands of Twitter users took to social media shortly after the release of the security footage to give props to the advantageous rodent:
This isn't the first time a rat has wreaked havoc on residents of the greater D.C. area, as highlighted by this Twitter user:
Does this mean the rats are evolving, plotting, and preparing for their eventual conquer of the Earth, or is just another case of a rat being a rat? Sound off in the comments below.
